Hayat: Advancing Ethical Organ Donation and Transplantation in the UAE

Hayat (حياة), meaning “Life” in Arabic, is the United Arab Emirates’ national organ and tissue donation and transplantation program. It is a government-led public health initiative administered by UAE health authorities and operates as part of the national healthcare system.

Established in line with the UAE Federal Decree Law of 2016, Hayat provides a unified, ethical, and well-regulated framework for living and deceased organ donation and transplantation. The program works closely with accredited hospitals and transplant centers to ensure transparency, patient safety, and high medical standards.

Since its launch in 2017, Hayat has supported more than 1,000 successful organ transplants, strengthened transplant services nationwide, and promoted public awareness and trust in organ donation—helping save lives and improve patient outcomes across the UAE.
